Julia Drescher

“Broom” or “The Grandmother”

who used a broom to
kill some baby
mice, pink
and blind—the barn
door the daylight
got in, opened
too wide—both
were surprised.  The mice
scattered like
petals
their bodies she
swept out.

Julia Drescher lives in Texas, where she is finishing her MFA at Texas State University, but will soon be relocating to Buffalo.  Her poem “Annunciation” appears in the third volume of Margie: The American Journal of Poetry.
